Music Review: Seemaraja (Tamil)
Composer(s): D. Imman

Imman and his earthy songs have become the biggest selling point over the years, and so it's not surprising in the least to see the composer embrace his roots once again in Seemaraja. Whether that's good or bad depends on your tolerance for such kind of music (remember Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam and Rajini Murugan?), but nothing could be more direct than Yugabharathi's lyrics in Vaaren Vaaren Seemaraja: Aracha maava arachaalum/ Athukkum venum oru therama! Punya Srinivas' veena rework of the melodious Onnavitta Yaarum Yenakilla is certainly interesting, if only let down by a poor choice of arrangements that doesn't really sit well with the tune. Listenable, but Imman's repetitive sound is starting to get tedious now.
