Having followed Mumbai-based composer duo Sachin Sanghvi and Jigar Saraiya since their Teree Sang days in 2009, it's undeniable that they have created some fantastic music, be it of the groovy variety or irresistible melodies. Yet it seems big ticket stardom still eludes them for some reason. It's bewildering yes, but listening to Stree may give us some pointers. It's a perfectly serviceable soundtrack, alternating between dance numbers with catchy club-ready refrains (Kamariya, Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe) and ear-pleasing melodies (Nazar Na Lag Jaaye, sung beautifully as always by Ash King), but none of it sounds and feels memorable. Will I be even listening to them after two months, let alone next year? That seems to be the big problem with today's mainstream music, isn't it? Recently when the duo were asked about their decade-long musical journey, this is what they had to say: "We have grown stronger as a team and didn't have exterior goals like we never worked for the balcony, we never wanted to please anyone, we never wanted awards, we only wanted to make music." On one hand, it's a very appreciable stance to take, but the middle-of-the-road approach of not wanting to please anyone can leave their sensibilities exactly there: middle-of-the-road.
