Tech Brief: Google Pixel 3 XL Leaks Well Ahead of Release

Let's face it. Display notches in smartphones are here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future. The trend, started by Essential Phone, but popularised by the iPhone X, has since then showed up in countless Android phones in different shapes ranging from unpleasant (hello OnePlus 6!) to downright obnoxious. (Samsung, thankfully, has stayed away from the craze thus far.) While notches do add valuable screen real estate by pushing the display panel all the way to the edges, it comes at a cost of having to set aside space in order to house the front-facing camera and other sensors. It's an unsightly design compromise, yes, but the trick is to not make it too intrusive. Yet I can assure nothing can prepare you for Google's ludicrous take on the notch (via Android Police): not only does the upcoming Pixel 3 XL sport a deep notch, but it also features a big chin at the bottom. Beauty may lie in the eyes of the beholder, but that sure is ugly!
