Tech Brief: Bitcoin is 10 Years Old

Bitcoin officially turns 10 today. It was on October 31, 2008 that its mysterious founder Satoshi Nakamoto published a nine-page long academic style paper called "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System." Since its creation, the decentralised digital currency has practically seen numerous applications, sparking a huge trend in cryptocurrencies. But interest in them peaked late last year when bitcoin's value hit a record high of US$ 19,783.06, before crashing towards the end of January 2018. As of today, one bitcoin is worth US$ 6,305.72.
