Music Review: Johny Johny Yes Appa (Malayalam)

That Shaan Rahman's music is the very definition of bliss is well-known. But the fact that he continues to mine the soundscape with interesting results should in no way be seen as a referendum on its quality - because, it's really, really good, a dreamy blend of gentle percussion and melodious tunes (Arike Aaro, Ente Maathram, Kanneeril and Poya Kaalame) that are fabulously complemented by Dev Dutt Bijibal*, Devika Deepak Dev*, Sachin Warrier, Vrinda Shameek and Harib Hussain on the vocals. The lone exception is the Vineeth Sreenivasan-sung title song, riding on a nursery rhyme-like base that's both peppy and spirited. Johny Johny Yes Appa is yet another impressive outing from Shaan Rahman.

* Yes, Bijibal's son and Deepak Dev's daughter. Dev Dutt's voice, by the way, has come a long way from Manjaniyum (Chakkaramaavin Kombathu, Bijibal) just in a span of an year:
