Music Review: Imaikkaa Nodigal (Tamil)
Composer(s): Hiphop Tamizha

For a film that's touted to be a gripping psychological thriller, Hiphop Tamizha's songs sure don't fit into that mould. Rudra's Symphony and Lions vs Hyenas are both intriguing, but fail to sustain momentum in a manner that would elevate them beyond customary levels, while Kadhalikathey is Hiphop Tamizha rehashing his own music from Meesaya Murukku, albeit with better results. The signature nadaswaram (D. Balasubramani) and ghatam touches aside, Vilambara Idaiveli works well as an airy melody sung with verve by Sudharshan Ashok (who was last heard in Karakudi Ilavarasi and Oxygen), Christopher Stanley and Srinisha Jayaseelan, even as Neeyum Naanum Anbe brings together Raghu Dixit, Sathyaprakash and Jithin Raj for what's an engaging rock-leaning romantic piece. Kadhal Oru Aagayam brings the curtains down on a sombre note, with Teejay and Al Rufian's soulful vocals complementing beautifully the plaintive number. Hiphop Tamizha bounce back to form with Imaikkaa Nodigal, which might very well be their best work since Thani Oruvan.
