Instagram is no longer the simple photo-sharing network it was when it launched in 2010. And today, it is setting its aim on YouTube (and Snapchat) with the official launch of
IGTV, a new video hub and standalone app that allows users to upload vertical videos up to 1 hour in length. The announcement comes following several
reports from Wall Street Journal and TechCrunch about the platform's ambitions for long-form video over the past few weeks. With Instagram now boasting of
1 billion monthly active users, it wouldn't be a surprise if IGTV goes on to become a serious competition for YouTube, something
Facebook Watch has failed at.
