Music Review: Njan Marykutty (Malayalam)

Cherupulliyuduppitta Poompatta, Oru Kochu Kumbilaanennakilum and Penninnullil Priya Mohangalkku are quite lovely and nice-sounding, but too short to make any sort of noticeable impact. Even the motivational pieces Thirakalethire Vannalum and Uyaraan Pataraan leave a lot to be desired, for they stick to a cookie-cutter template that exudes tedium than it does inspire hope. Ennullil Ennum Nee Mathram is beautiful, but punctuated by a rather bland hallelujah hook that feels forced and unnecessary. Kaana Kadalaasilaaro, in contrast, gets pitch-perfect vocal accompaniment in Ann Amie, who does a masterful job singing the folky melody, while Biju Narayanan returns after what's a long time in Doore Doore, a pretty strings-laden tune with shades of Santhosh Narayanan's Nillayo. Anand Madhusoodanan turns in quite a lilting score for Njan Marykutty.
