Heavy Rotation: Ashu Abhishek, Charan Raj, Masala Coffee & More
Charan Raj's hip-hop / trap outing Popcorn Monkey Tiger gets fantastic support from Sanjit Hegde, even as Raj, in his quirky signature style, inserts classical interludes like only he can in the absurdly addictive Psychedelic Maaye. Trust Charan Raj to keep things off-piste and consistently engaging.
Pressure Cooker boasts of as many as four music directors, including singer Rahul Sipligunj making his composing debut, but the result is a refreshing potpourri of sounds that's unlike I have heard in Telugu, a wacky smorgasbord of folk and classical elements best exemplified by Sunil Kashyap's Nee Hrudayam (what a rendition by Aditi Bhavaraju!), Harshavardhan Rameshwar's Gamaninchindi and Smaran's Oggu Katha. (Smaran also composed the background score for RX 100.) The fact that the tunes keep unexpectedly changing course shifts the mood from melodic warmth to welcome uncertainty. And that can only be a good thing!
Here's a quick roundup of my favourite tunes from Masala Coffee (Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal - Kanave Nee Naan), Anurag Saikia (Thappad - Ek Tukda Dhoop), Praveen Lakkaraju (Raahu - Kshanama, Emo Emo), Harshavardhan Rameshwar (Pressure Cooker - Gamaninchindi), Sunil Kashyap (Nee Hrudayam), Smaran (Oggu Katha), Vivek Sagar (HIT - Ventaade Gaayam), Arun Muraleedharan (Anugraheethan Antony - Kamini, Neeye, Ee Nadhi), Raghu Dixit (Love Mocktail - Janumagale Kaayuve, Kanna Haniyondu)...
... and some more from Charan Raj (Popcorn Monkey Tiger - Maadeva, Psychedelic Maaye), Sridhar V. Sambhram (Aadyaa - Neene Kaarana), B. Ajaneesh Loknath (Gentleman - Marali Manasaagide), Judah Sandhy (Shivaji Surathkal: The Case Of Ranagiri Rahasya - Aparichita), Soumya Rit (Abyakto - Kandale Tumi More), and Ashu Abhishek (Sraboner Dhara - Asthir Somoy)...
