Listen: Field Works' "Dusk Tempi" ft. Eluvium
Musician, National Geographic explorer, and researcher Stuart Hyatt, under his Field Works alias, morphs audio field recordings into pieces of ambient, experimental music. The Indianapolis artist is now taking a step further with his upcoming LP Ultrasonic (5/1), which expands his work to uncharted acoustic territories — "from ethereal bat echolocations to the foundational rumblings of seismic activity" — even as he assembles a group of talented contributors like Eluvium's Matthew Cooper, Mary Lattimore, Kelly Moran, Sarah Davachi, and Noveller to contour the soundscapes with their unique sensibilities. Dusk Tempi, the first track of the album, sees him join hands with Cooper, while incorporating the echolocation sounds of the flying mammals into a form of bewitching instrumental, even as it approaches a steady, whirring crescendo.
