Heavy Rotation: Ilaiyaraaja, Jakes Bejoy, Sricharan Pakala & More

What a lilting melody Jakes Bejoy's Ilam Poove (Anveshanam) is, a gorgeous arrangement of plucked guitar patterns and aided by Sooraj Santhosh's sterling vocals. In Varane Avashyamund, Alphons Joseph crafts a lilting classical devotional piece Nee Vaa En Aarumukha that seems tailormade for K. S. Chithra and Karthik. Muthunne Kannukalil's mellifluous tune rides on a similar soundbed, with Shweta Mohan and Swetha Somasundaran lending sterling vocal support.

Ilaiyaraaja, in his welcome return with Pyscho, makes his presence felt in the utterly captivating harmonies Unna Nenachu and Neenga Mudiyuma, with Sid Sriram rendering the melodies with excellent restraint and stirring sentiment. Sriram also croons Uyire, from Gauthamante Radham, in his inimitable style, but it's composer Ankit Menon who steals the spotlight in the serene acoustic melody Theera Katha.

It's not just the maestro. His daughter, Bhavatharani Raja, makes a noteworthy comeback with Maayanadhi, striking an emotional chord with a handful of breezy melodies that mine the Ilaiyaraaja aethetic oh-so-beautifully. Kanja Paarvai Kavidhaiyaaguthae, in particular, is a keeper, bolstered by a lilting strings-laden tune, and Senthil Das and Priyanka's effortless singing.

Here's a quick roundup of other notable tunes from Jakes Bejoy (Ayyappanum Koshiyum - Kalakkatha Sandana Meram), Karthik Sharma (Naanu Matthu Gunda - Kavalodeda), Jey Raggaveindra (Pulanaivu - En Sogame), Gopi Sundar (Choosi Choodangaane - Nee Parichayamutho), D. Imman (Seeru - Vaa Vasuki, Vaasana Poochenda)...

... and some more from Sricharan Pakala (Aswathama - Ninne Ninne), Gourov-Roshin (Jawaani Jaaneman - Mere Baabula), AV Prafullachandra (Dhurala - Baari Baari, Kaakana Kinkin), Arjun Janya (India vs England - Naa Akshaamsha), and Vijaynarain (Dagaalty - Paaren Paaren, Yedho Maayam)...
