Music Review: World Famous Lover (Telugu)

Composer(s): Gopi Sundar

Gopi Sundar has his plate so full, there's a new release of his almost every week. Not that it's a bad thing, but it also becomes a case of quantity over quality, an embodiment of assembly line pop designed from the factory of average-ness. The songs have a fleetingly ear-pleasing quality to them, but for the most part, World Famous Lover coasts along predictable lines. Too bad, then, the only time it soars — My Love — the tune is a straight-up rework of his own Vaanam from American-Born Confused Desi. (Gopi Sundar, in a comment on YouTube, says "this song wasn't included in the movie and hence didn't get the recognition I wished it got as the creator." Fair enough.) World Famous Lover ultimately ends up being a decidedly paint-by-numbers album that elicits muted bursts of pleasure, while veering between the forgettable and passably engaging.
