Music Review: Kombu Vatcha Singamda (Tamil)
Composer(s): Dhibu Ninan Thomas

Pesatha Mozhiye features singers K. S. Harisankar and Chinmayi Sripada in top form, even as composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas crafts a mesmerising melody dominated by classical strains. Arkali is both tender and exquisite, with Sathyaprakash Dharmar and Ala B. Bala's vocals soaring above a gently churning arrangement. Kapil Kapilan, who vowed with Adiye (Bachelor) last year, once again teams up with Thomas for a rock-leaning folk piece Thamizh Sondhamae, but it's Chinna Raasa that emerges the soundtrack's highlight. The melancholy-soaked stunner is almost A. R. Rahman like (along the lines of Chithirai Nela from Kadal), and is as much a showcase of Kapilan's vocal dexterity as it is an undeniably pretty soundscape that adds and subtracts layers deftly for stratospheric highs and transfixing lows, all the while aided spectacularly by an uplifting choir and a bevy of strings courtesy of the Macedonian Symphonic Orchestra. Dhibu Ninan Thomas demonstrates his incredible sense of sound in his latest outing Kombu Vatcha Singamda.
