New Music Friday: Burial's "Antidawn"

It's the first Friday of 2022, and it's kicking off with William Emmanuel Bevan — better known by his recording alias Burial — who has put out yet another long-form EP called Antidawn. It may feature just five tracks, but at 43 minutes, this might as well be the closest thing to a full-length album from the enigmatic shape-shifting musician since releasing Untrue in 2007. Like his previous works, Antidawn is a stunning-yet-immersive showcase of sweeping synths and percussion-free ambient music that's littered with Burial's trademark vinyl crackles and manipulated vocal samples, conjuring an amorphous auditory experience that's at once fragmented, hypnotic and built with intricate detail like no other, even as it seamlessly meanders from one to the next. It's ominous but also deeply fascinating. Stream it below -
