Listen: Tame Impala's "Posthumous Forgiveness"
Australian psych-rock titans Tame Impala will drop The Slow Rush, the much awaited follow-up to 2015 Currents, on Valentine's Day, and now we've yet another sneak-peek into the new album. Coming on the heels of Patience, Borderline, and It Might Be Time — each progressively plagued by a sense of diminishing returns — the new cut, Posthumous Forgiveness, is a six minute ride, working reasonably well as a mutation of the psychedelic aesthetic Parker has perfected over the years, although nowhere close to the brilliance of the band's earlier efforts. The signature falsetto vocals and snazzy production flourishes, coupled with the giant conga-backed detour about three-fourths into the song, recalls New Person, Same Old Mistakes, but the two parts don't quite harmoniously connect as well as they should.
