Listen: Tame Impala's "Patience"

"Has it really been that long?," muses Tama Impala in Patience, the Kevin Parker-led psych-rock project's new song in a very, very long time since he put out Currents way back in 2015. The album and its catchy blend of lysergic tunes made Parker a household name, kicking off with Rihanna's cover of New Person, Same Old Mistakes and spawning quite a long list of collaborations with Lady Gaga, Miguel, Steven Zhu and Kali Uchis over the years, all while embracing a shimmery brand of synth-soaked goodness that danced around the peripheries of mainstream pop. As for the latest song, it's a psychedelic disco banger, a totally accessible mix of pop music backed by pulsating synths, rhythmic congas and bright piano grooves, almost reminiscent of the summery, retro-flavoured funk that Calvin Harris put out in 2017.
