Heavy Rotation: Destroyer, Soccer Mommy, TORRES & More

Billie Eilish sort of slipped off my radar after Ocean Eyes, but her full-length debut earlier this year marks an interesting shift in contemporary pop. Blending jazz, rock, pop, hip-hop and all the sonic boxes that act as a hybrid of sorts somewhere between Grimes and Lorde, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? feels like a genre mish-mash that feels so removed from the pop formula — when the party's over is too good! — yet works so darn well. Also noteworthy is Eilish's everything i wanted, a misty, echoing loop that keeps her downcast voice front and centre in the mix. Rounding up this week's playlist are my new favourites from Matt Berninger (Walking on a String ft. Phoebe Bridgers), Clairo (B.O.M.D. ft. Danny L Harle), Caspian (Flowers of Light), Baths (Wistful Fata Morgana), Moses Sumney (Virile), Modest Mouse (Ice Cream Party), Destroyer (It Just Doesn't Happen), Soccer Mommy (yellow is the color of her eyes), Duster (Letting Go), TORRES (Gracious Day), Kvelertak (Bråtebrann), and of Montreal (Peace To All Freaks)...
