Heavy Rotation: MGMT, Moses Sumney, Thyla & More

Coldplay's new double album Everyday Life finds its creators hopscotching from symphonic instrumental (Sunrise) to arena-rocking hits (Church, Everyday Life) to groovy funk-jazz (Arabesque) to gospel (BrokEn, Orphans, When I Need A Friend) to soul (Guns) to folk-rock (Old Friends) to introspective balladry (Daddy). But the musical left turns all manage to pay off more often than not. What's more, it shows a willingness on part of Chris Martin & Co. to experiment with a largely sombre tone, while also contemplating on the state of the world and capture the current divisive political zeitgeist. Give it a listen below, alongside my new favourites from Cornelius (Sauna Sukisugi), The Dodos (The Atlantic), Say Sue Me (Your Book, Good People), Moses Sumney (Polly), Cartalk (Sleep), MGMT (In the Afternoon), Låpsley (My Love Was Like the Rain), Chromatics (Burning Bridges), Thyla (December), and Pearly (Chain of Coral)...
