Music Briefs: Driving Licence, Hero, Kalikkoottukar, Katha Sangama, Kiss, Mundina Nildana, Prathi Poovankozhi, Prati Roju Pandaage, Ruler, Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakaasha & Thrissur Pooram
Talk about ending the year on a high! Katha Sangama and Mundina Nildana are easily two of the best Kannada soundtracks to come out this year. Featuring songs by multiple composers, the assorted mix is by turns breezy, engaging and quirky, ably supported by the singers involved.
Chirrantan Bhatt's Ruler comes with all the requisite trappings of a routine commercial potboiler, but the ebullient track Sankranti is both festive and foot-tapping. Yaala Yaala, sung to perfection by Anurag Kulkarni and Anusha Mani, is great too, an anodyne amalgam of melodious classical sounds and textures.
Thaman, who's the toast of the season with the much-anticipated Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, delivers a familiar, if efficiently produced, soundtrack with Prati Roju Pandaage. The easy highlights are the pleasant Vijay Yesudas-sung Chinnataname and Oo... Baava..., wherein the man ropes in Mohana Bhogaraju for a catchy folk-laced dance number.
Meanwhile, Yuvan closes out 2019 with a forgettable Hero. Here's a quick playlist of my favourite tracks from various soundtracks spanning across Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu...
Kalikkoottukar (Vinu Thomas) - Neeyoral Mathramen
Prathi Poovankozhi (Gopi Sundar) - Eninna Enithenna
Driving Licence (Yakzan Gary Pereira & Neha Nair) - Njan Thedum Thaaram
Thrissur Pooram (Ratheesh Vegha) - Sakhiyeee
Sarvajanikarige Suvarnavakaasha (Midhun Mukundan) - Neelaakasha Kelu
Katha Sangama - Naa Ninnaya, Irula Chandirana (Gagan Baderiya), Mamavathu Sri Sarasvathi (Nobin Paul), Arivu Beku (Vasu Dixit)
