The sounds of nadaswaram and thavil, courtesy Ramanathapuram Marungan Melam Team, adorn the festive opener Karnan Purappadu. Karnan Kodai is a much shorter instrumental along similar lines, but it's no less foot-tapping with a layer of sustained synths complementing the mood piece. Kidakkuzhi Mariyammal's rustic vocal artistry forms the core of the electric Kandaa Vara Sollunga, even as Santhosh Narayanan adds an omnipresent synth background that lends a brooding touch to the proceedings. The musical outpouring of Manjanathi Puranam, driven by a mix of traditional instruments, is an oppari (dirge) sung with emotional heft by composer Deva, while Thattan Thattan is an earthy melody if only undone by Dhanush's subpar singing. Uttradheenga Yeppov's electronic soundscape is diametrically discordant from the rest, and in Dhee's singing, the track starts on a groovy note, but soon enough, the drums build, fill, metastasize, and by the end, it becomes an eclectic fusion of sorts. For a film about a rebellion against exploitation and caste-based discrimination, Santhosh Narayanan delivers a thematic soundtrack that's rooted in Tamil folk milieu.
