Listen: Tame Impala's "Borderline"

Tame Impala's Kevin Parker recently shared Patience, his first new material since releasing Currents back in 2015, which, while typically hazy, also had a Calvin Harris-like vibe to it, especially the retro-flavoured funk stuff he put out in 2017. The latest song Borderline all but confirms it. It's still Tame Impala, with all that shifting synths and groovy basslines, not to mention the woodwinds and conga drums, which are a nice summery touch. At the same time, you can't help but wonder if this is also nothing but perfectly serviceable disco-y, dance music, algorithmically engineered to perfection but amounting to little else.
