Music Review: Shikkari Shambhu (Malayalam)

Composer(s): Sreejith Edavana

Shikkari Shambhu is definitely not Sreejith Edavana's debut as a composer (he has movies like Meow and Dhuun to his credit, among others), but the five-song soundtrack throws off enough sparks that I am left scratching my head as to why I didn't run into him during my music explorations all this while! Sung flawlessly by Haricharan Seshadri and Roshni Suresh (a staple of his, going by his discography), Mazha is every bit the sedate classical melody, utterly captivating and splendorous, even as Vijay Yesudas brings his inimitable style to the catchy folky number Kaana Chembaka Poo. Puliyunde Nariyunde comes off more like a wacky jungle safari steeped in electronic influences, replete with references to the popular Tinkle comic character, and Thararaathara Moolana Kaattinu rides on a dated-if-pleasant 90's sound, but Tharam rounds it all on a dreamy note, the folky melody gaining immensely from a delectable tune and a fantastic rendition by Deepak. Sreejith Edavana turns in a winsome score for Shikkari Shambhu!

    1. Yeah.. I realized it a couple of days back. Just waiting to confirm if the soundtrack is fully out or not, before updating the review. With staggered releases these days, it’s becoming hard to tell when an album is released! Thanks for pointing it out! 👍
