Music Review: Hey Jude (Malayalam)

The most surprising thing about Hey Jude's music is not how offbeat it is, but about how it all comes together as a cohesive whole, featuring five tunes from four different composers (each of whom have previously worked with Shyamaprasad in different films) that zag when you expect them to zig, lending it an air of unpredictability that's utterly refreshing. Be it the cheery Yela La La (Gopi Sundar), the bouncy Hey Don't Worry Jude (Rahul Raj) or Ouseppachan's rock 'n roll homage Rock Rock, an upbeat atmosphere they do guarantee, while the rock ballad Nisa Shalabhame (M. Jayachandran) and the fantastic choral-a cappella medley Meenukal Vannupoy (Ouseppachan) anchor the soundtrack with their meditative charm. As unconventional as it is, Hey Jude is a damn fine outing!
