Tech Brief: Google to Bring all its Payment Solutions Under 'Google Pay'
Leave it upto Google to make two of everything that does the same thing, but doesn't talk to each other, ending up confusing the end user. However in a fresh announcement made today, the search giant said it will be bringing all its payment offerings, NFC-based Android Pay, peer-to-peer cash transfer service Google Wallet and web payments, under a new branding umbrella called Google Pay. The post also noted that this unified experience would be rolling out to Google Tez, its India-focussed payment brand, as well. On a side note though, Google Pay is the search giant's fourth attempt at giving online payments a shot after Google Checkout, which was retired in favour of Google Wallet in 2013, the latter being the original NFC-based payments system that was relegated to just being a P2P digital wallet after Android Pay was introduced in 2015. Now that one unification is thankfully underway (and also possibly for Google Play Music and YouTube Music), can we expect the same for messaging next?
