Music Review: Kalyanam (Malayalam)
Composer(s): Prakash Alex
Listen to the songs online here: Saavn
Coming from keyboard programmer turned full-fledged composer Prakash Alex, Kalyanam is an enlivening listen, the inevitable Gopi Sundar vibe aside that is. Which is altogether not surprising given that the man has been latter's associate in many of his recent outings. Mazhamukile's lovely qawwali'esque base is doubtless arresting, as are the dulcet melodies Pande Nee Ennil Unde and Kunjilam Poove. Kalyanam is another attempt at Maangalyam, but no less catchy in Suchith Suresan and Joju Sebastian's sprightly vocals. Dhrithangapulakithan is no different, its hyperkinetic beats slightly offset by a subpar singing by actor Dulquer Salmaan. Prakash Alex's debut is promising, one only hopes he outgrows his mentor's soundscape to something more original.
