Music Review: Uri: The Surgical Strike (Hindi)
Composer(s): Shashwat Sachdev

The bhangra-rock fusion Challa rides on an aggressive, grunge-like soundbed (Mohini Dey's bass is just fantastic, no two ways about it), gaining immensely from Romy and Vivek Hariharan's singing. Daler Mehndi brings his insane vocal energy to the interestingly arranged Jagga Jiteya, but the song never comes together despite all the heavy bass and the pulse-pounding synthetic beats. Manzar Hai Yeh Naya is an inspirational anthem done mostly right (Sivamani is in charge of the percussion) with a lovely shehnai twist thrown in, and in Jigra, the pulsating electronic orchestration is a big plus as is Siddharth Basrur's effective rendition. The soundtrack ultimately belongs to Behe Chala, a splendid piece of work that lives up to its name, the blend of Youngmin Kim's acoustic guitars and Yasser Desai's vocals resulting in a serene free-flowing melody. Shashwat Sachdev's debut as a solo composer is largely thematic, yet refreshing.
