Almost two months after Google announced its plans to shut down
Allo, the messaging app that no one ever used, the search giant is making good on its promise to transition its users from classic Hangouts to Hangouts Chat and Meet. In a
fresh announcement made today, as a first step, Google has said it intends to move G Suite users to Chat and Meet between April and September, and start retiring classic Hangouts effective October. For regular users though, the timeline is a still a little unclear, but it expects to "transition consumers to free Chat and Meet following the transition of G Suite customers," and that "a more specific timeline will be communicated at a later date."
