Composer(s): Yuvan Shankar Raja

Why does Yuvan often insist on singing the best songs in his albums of late is beyond me — Is it because he genuinely wants to sing them, or is he being forced to? Take Vaa Vellai Raasathi for instance. A captivatingly constructed brooding melody, backed by an inventive melange of synths, flutes, sarangi and ambient chord progressions, it needed a better singer. And Yuvan makes such a hack-job of it. But hey, it could have been worse. Azhaikkatuma, the opener, goes the traditional folk way, with Mathichiyam Bala lending rock solid vocal support. Neenda Malare, Endhan Kangalai and Sevvandhi Poove, on the other hand, are a cakewalk for Yuvan, pleasant and well-packaged, the former in particular accompanied by a beautiful sprinkle of flute and tabla, and Yazin Nizar and Shweta Pandit's superlative singing. Yuvan Shankar Raja continues his dream run with a clutch of lilting melodies in Kanne Kalaimaane.
