Composer(s): D. Imman

D. Imman's outings so far this year have been hit-and-miss, and in Viswasam, the composer churns out yet another rural fare, packed with traditional folk tunes so "typical Imman" that are caught in some numb nether region between the mediocre and the familiar sounding. The result is a soundtrack that isn't so much an evolution of Imman's craft as it's a commonplace mishmash of his own tunes. Barring one song that is. Sid Sriram dependably delivers the lullaby'ish Kannaana Kanney in his inimitable style which complements the melody's guitar-led arrangement (Prakash Sontakke's slide guitar version is a major plus), but not even Hariharan and Shreya Ghoshal's effective rendition can help tide over the crushingly derivative Ilaiyaraaja'esque ballad Vaaney Vaaney. Viswasam sees Imman sticking steadfastly loyal to his rustic template that has by now become flat out boring.
