For actor Mohanlal's latest tentpole commercial vehicle Odiyan, M. Jayachandran conceives a folk-tinged soundtrack that's marginally engaging at best and coasts along familiar lines. Yet, for what it's worth, the composer's frequent collaborator Shreya Ghoshal does bring her own charm to the pieces Kondoram and Maanam, and M. G. Sreekumar's poignant rendition of brooding melody Muthappante works exceedingly well, adding immensely to the song's sinister, free-flowing sound. Nenjile, despite Shankar Mahadevan's best efforts, just meanders, while Mohanlal's poor singing makes the cheery Enoruvan a chore to listen to. M. Jayachandran closes out 2018 on a forgettable note.
