Music Review: Thondimuthalum Dhriksaakshiyum (Malayalam)

Bijibal has pretty much affirmed his status as the go-to man for retro-styled melodies and now you can add Kannile Poika to that list. Flawlessly rendered by Ganesh Sundaram and Sowmya Ramakrishnan, the beautiful song benefits immensely from an arresting arrangement that's evocative of the bygone era. Sithara Krishnakumar and Govind Menon likewise bring out their best in the traditional folk piece Aayilyam, with Bijibal resorting to a mix of flute and chenda to fantastic effect. Varum Varum in comparison exudes a contemporary feel, but is no less melodious in Bijibal's singing and Sandeep Mohan's fab guitarwork. At about 10 minutes, Thondimuthalum Dhriksaakshiyum is too short to qualify as a soundtrack but Bijibal makes it work!
