Listen: Beach House's "B-Sides and Rarities"
Beach House — how inviting is the name? And for the Baltimore-based dream-pop outfit, the moniker could not have been more appropriate, for the brooding, hazy soundscape that adorns their music is as welcoming as it's enchanting and rejuvenating. Now 13 years and six albums later, the duo of Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally mix and match their evolving moody electro-pop influences by throwing "chronology to the wind" in a new compilation album that should find takers among hardcore Beach House fanatics and music aficionados alike.
Titled B-Sides and Rarities, it is exactly what is says — an assorted mix of spaced-out tunes that were left out from their previous albums, along with a renewed take on some of their biggest hits. It's entrancing, powerful and serene all at once, and yet consistently engaging, once again reaffirming the duo's penchant for churning out delicate, timeless music.
