In August 2015, Google launched a dedicated gaming hub called
YouTube Gaming to combat Twitch (which had by then been acquired by Amazon), but in an interesting turn of events, the search giant
announced today that it would no longer maintain a
separate app for live game streaming. Instead, the standalone apps would be shut down next spring while the service's best features are integrated onto YouTube's main site under a separate destination called
youtube.com/gaming. YouTube Gaming is not the only app Google has killed recently.
Google Inbox, the experimental email client, and
offline Gmail for Chrome were also given the boot, with both services set to be turned off in the next few months.
