Music Review: Pariyerum Perumal (Tamil)
Composer(s): Santhosh Narayanan

Santhosh Narayanan has a knack for crafting songs rooted in a rustic milieu and it comes out spectacularly well in Vanakkam Vanakkamunga and Engum Pugazh Thuvanga. The album then makes a cool jump from brooding hip-hop/dirge (Karuppi) to familiar comfort food (Vaa Rayil Vida Polaama, which is characterised by sparse rhythms and dreamier piano-led harmonies) to captivating folk (Pottakaatil Poovasam, where Yogi Sekar and Fareedha's vocal chemsitry works wonders!) to effervescent grunge-rock confections (Naan Yaar) all with an effortless ease that leaves me bereft of adjectives to describe how beautiful it is. Santhosh Narayanan, after Kaala, churns out an irrepressibly engaging multi-genre medley with Pariyerum Perumal.
