Tech Brief: More People Are Taking Facebook Breaks

The recent wave of criticism levelled against Facebook (and other social media platforms) for enabling fake news, propaganda, hate speech and censorship may very well be valid, but a Pew Research Center survey of U.S. Facebook users conducted in the wake of Cambridge Analytica data scandal between May 29 and June 11 may spell more trouble for the company in the long run, with the study finding around four-in-ten (42%) to have taken a break from checking the platform for a period of several weeks or more, in addition to a quarter (26%) going to the extent of deleting the Facebook app from their phones.
