Listen: A. R. Rahman's "Nee Thaan En Desiya Geetham" (Tamil)
I don't know what's it with this song, but A. R. Rahman's Nee Thaan En Desiya Geetham from the 2001 Tamil film Paarthale Paravasam is all I have been hearing over the last few days. Endlessly on repeat. Perhaps it has something to do with the composer's mesmerising, hymnal blend of Carnatic and Hindustani elements, or it is Balram Iyer and Chithra's magical rendition that's doing the trick. (Hard to believe this is Balram's playback singing debut!) Or it is lyricist Vaali's poetic ode to love that equates the feeling of love to a national anthem. It's hard to pin it down on one single aspect, but be sure to give it an earful right below. Consider yourself warned — the song is a repeat trap of the highest order.
