Listen: Kacey Musgraves' "Space Cowboy"

Calling country singer Kacey Musgraves' new song about a relationship that has run its course pretty is quite an understatement. The person she addresses on Space Cowboy isn't so much an astronaut, although it could be given the drifting metaphor, but it's more likely that "cowboy" whom she has let go, one who doesn't want to be fenced in, not so subtly alluded to in the form of a clever wordplay between the words space and cowboy ("You can have your space, cowboy," goes the lyric) and intoned as a pause that's as wide as the rift separating them. Have the austere ballad a listen below, and while you are it give Natalie Prass' Short Court Style a shot as well. It's a bouncy little bundle of fun, in a way that reminded me of Shura.
