Book Review(s): The Curator / Black Summer / The Puppet Show
M. W. Craven's Washington Poe series is what would be the result if Lee Child's Jack Reacher and Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme came together. Blending explosive action set pieces with adroit detective work, the idyllic Cumbrian backdrop sets in motion a string of bizarre murders, gruesome and horrific, leading disgraced National Crime Agency detective Washington Poe and his eccentric yet brilliant partner Tilly Bradshaw race against time to unmask the identities of the perpetrators. Craven underpins his twisty narratives with distinctive, well-developed characters that complement the skillfully paced plots, and expertly raises the stakes as the suspense mounts and the body count rises, complicating the already complex stories involving cover-ups, coded messages, and motifs of revenge and retribution. An engaging series that's a highly gripping read.
