Music Briefs: Hridpindo, Krishna and His Leela & Tansener Tanpura

New music from Sricharan Pakala, Vishal Bhardwaj, Joy Sarkar, Ranajoy Bhattacharjee and more...

Krishna and His Leela - Sricharan Pakala brings his A-game to Krishna and His Leela, embellishing the soundtrack with a dreamy sheen and understated synth-pop sounds that make for strobing electronic jams (Ekanthamantha, Nayanam), with the classical-dubstep fusion Muddugaare standing out. And oh, IndianRaga's EDM Thillana and Mahesh Raghvan's Alaipayuthe Kanna make an appearance too!

Tansener Tanpura - Tomake Bhalobeshe is a mesmerising classical fusion with a generous melange of Hindustani musical elements thrown into the mix, while Aguun Choriye's inventive use of kamavardhini (or pantuvarāḷi) raga yields a hypnotic sitar-laden piece led by a terrific Asmita Kar, Arunita Kanjilal and Pt. Tushar Dutta. Man Kunto Maula carries a sufi'esque tilt to it, but it's the kind of a spiralling grand-scale instrumentation that culminates in a hymnal crescendo. Shey Je Kon Pothe Gyalo's captivating melodic soundbed is garnished with a perfect sprinkle of sitar and tabla, even as Pt. Tushar Dutta and Asmita hit all the right notes with their splendid singing. Crooned with excellent heft by Jimut Roy, Shurey Shurey Taakey is at once radiant and lilting, dextrously weaving classical flourishes in its contemporary arrangement. Closer Totodur Prem expands on the modish sound for a breezy acoustic fare, with fantastic vocal purchase from Roy and Somlata Acharyya Chowdhury. Joy Sarkar has an intoxicating winner on his hands with Tansener Tanpura.

Hridpindo - Mon Kyamoner Jonmodin's sweet folky melody rides on a profusion of strings, with Mekhla Dasgupta's superb rendition going for it, while Chandrika Bhattacharya rules the dazzling retro'ish Chithi Chithi Din. Composer Ranajoy Bhattacharjee himself croons a second version of Mon Kyamoner, which trades its classical flourishes for a more contemporary rock sound, even as the flecks of beautiful ambient tones that make up Hridpinder Taan gain massive fillip from singer Durnibar Saha.

Rangi Saari - Sufi singer Kavita Seth may be missing in action in Bollywood but her husky voice fits a like a glove in this dreamy, soulful, electronic-leaning take on the traditional composition.

Manjha - Vishal Mishra sings and composes this pretty melody, its blend of tabla, flute and contemporary breakbeats elevating an everyday tune into a loveable number.

Dhoop Aane Do - Vishal Bhardwaj and his better half Rekha bring alive Gulzar's lyrics to life, their emotive vocals cascading over a gentle free-flowing soundbed, twirling around in a haze that's beautifully matched by a lovely assortment of strings and saxophone.
