Music Review: LKG (Tamil)
Composer(s): Leon James, S. M. Subbaiah Naidu
Listen to the songs online here: JioSaavn (1), (2)
S. M. Subbaiah Naidu's 1954 iconic song from Malaikkallan, Yethanai Kaalamthan, gets a rework, and while it's no patch on the original, Leon James smartly stays away from ruining the folky melody in the name of remix. Plus, having Sean Roldan might just have been the best thing to work in its favour. Dappaava Kizhichaan treads a more contemporary blues route, but the situational number is redeemed to a large extent by Shruti Hassan's spirited rendition. Thimiru Kaattaadha Di is vintage 90's Rahman, utterly beautiful and competently sung by D. Sathyaprakash, while Thamizh Anthem ropes in veterans P. Susheela, Vani Jairam and L. R. Eswari, alongside Sid Sriram and Chinmayi for what's an invigorating Thamizh Anthem, with Pa. Vijay's poetic lyrics for company. Leon James continues to deliver ear-pleasing music with LKG.
