Lynne Ramsay's genre-defying psychological thriller You Were Never Really Here (2018) was equal parts unsettling, nightmarish and brutal, a film about violence, power and compassion, and Radiohead member and multi-instrumentalist Jonny Greenwood matches the atmosphere exceptionally well with an intriguing score that incorporates some of electronic music's contours with free-flowing, melancholic strings, thudding synth riffs and syncopated drums, creating jarring, atonal soundscapes that flit from one contrasting mood to the other, alternating between uneasy bleakness and hope.
