It's been more than two years since we last heard from Krishna Kumar (aka K), but I am happy he is finally back. The Chennaiite engineer-turned-composer is well known for songs written with an exceptional eye for melody and texture, and the man brings his unique aesthetic to Yatra, populating the soundtrack with thematic-yet-tuneful compositions that are equal parts magnificent (Samara Shankham, Rajanna Ninnapagalara, Nee Raaka Kosam) and poignant (Manditho Paatugaa, Pallello Kala Undi, Marugainaava Rajanna), and all parts absorbing and phenomenal. More than anything, Yatra is a testament to K's sheer wizardry with the arrangements, blending folk and contemporary elements to dazzling effect. Here's hoping to see him more often!
