Music Review: Sakhavu (Malayalam)
Composer(s): Prashant Pillai

Old meets new in Madhumathiye, a fabulous retro-styled melody sung flawlessly by Shreekumar Vakkiyil and Preeti Pillai. Composer Bijibal turns singer in the inescapable percussion-heavy revolutionary song Lokam Ennum (and how can you not with a movie title like Sakhavu?), even as the violins add a nice touch. Sithara Krishnakumar and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi are perfect foil for singing the retro'ish tune Udhichuyarnne and equally engaging is the orchestration (clarinet, harmonium and tabla) Prashant Pillai incorporates. More traditional percussion follows in Thayyum Thindaka, a hyper-energetic folk number sung by Shreekumar Vakkiyil and Sreerag Saji that gets additional vocal backing from a fine chorus. Closing the album on a serene lullaby'ish note is Aarariro, which Preeti Pillai makes all the more alluring with her fine rendition. Prashant Pillai scores yet again with an imaginative score in Sakhavu.
