Heavy Rotation: Brothertiger, Jamie xx, The Staves & More

Adele's 25 breaks sales records and Coldplay drop their newest album...

Fall Apart, Wake, Jungle Floor, Wind at My Back (Brothertiger) - John Jagos's newly released album Out of Touch is best described as a fuzzy "auditory journey" so serene and tranquil.

Mouth of Time (CALLmeKAT aka Katherine Ottoson) - Katherine's fine voice towers over finger snaps and thudding drums in this vibrant melody.

I Really Like You, Run Away With Me (Carly Rae Jepsen) - Good old pop anthems from Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, and one of the solid mainstream albums to release this year, if I may add.

Fun ft. Tove Lo (Coldplay) - Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams sees the band at their most accessible, mainstream best, and while I am not completely sold on this pop crossover, the band's flirtations with full-blown pop/R&B (Hymn for the Weekend and Fun), hip-hop (X Marks the Spot, a hidden track sneaked into Army of One), and disco (Adventure of a Lifetime) are decidedly mixed. My personal favorite is the mellifluous post-breakup retrospective Fun, and the collaboration too works rather very well, better than Hymn... at any rate.

Message (Jamie Woon) - Soulful is the word!

Gosh, Loud Places, I Know There's Gonna Be (Good Times) (Jamie xx aka Jamie Smith) - Gosh is seriously oh my gosh and an addiction that cannot be easily cured. To get a feel of what the song's all about, allow me to quote Pitchfork - "It builds, one loop upon the next, each new brick of groove slotting into place, until it becomes a sky-scraping edifice whose call-to-motion is impossible to resist", a feeling that only compounds further with the ultra-exuberant, dancehall-styled I Know... It should probably come with a statutory warning: Listener likely to be spell-casted and controlled like a voodoo!

Rookie (LCMDF) - Sounds a lot like Ke$ha (especially her Die Young), but who cares, the song is catchy!

B (Prins Thomas aka Thomas Moen Hermansen) - 12-minutes of ambient, synthy music that makes for the ultimate languorous listen.

Physical (St. Lucia) - If you enjoyed listening to Dancing on Glass, be prepared to get Physical, an epic banger of a song perfect for a night out at the club.

Steady, Make it Holy (The Staves) - I am so happy I discovered this acoustic folk-rock sister trio group from England. What incredibly beautiful songs!
