Heavy Rotation: Beck, Ben Khan, pinkshinyultrablast & More
Beck, Ben Khan, pinkshinyultrablast among other top recent listens from this week...
Dreams (Beck) - LA-based artist Beck Hansen's first single post his last year Grammy sweep is enticing disco-funk and shamelessly catchy. Definitely live-worthy material!
Drive, Pt. 1, 1000 (Ben Khan) - Drive is haunting and hypnotic, its soundscape fitting like a glove to Khan's fabulous vocals. 1000 on the other hand has a more upbeat electro-funk twang to it, yet captivating all the same.
Golden Lion, The Plain Moon (The Besnard Lakes) - The Motorway was my first brush with the Montreal rockers, and needless to say, it was alluring enough to make me look up their previous discography. Golden Lion and The Plain Moon, from the band's upcoming album A Coliseum Complex Museum, are beautiful, mixing elements of folk and psychedelia (or shoegaze?) to an ear-pleasing effect.
Under the Sun (DIIV) - New York dream-rockers DIIV have been busy churning out one floaty single after the other, drumming up warranted hype for their forthcoming album Is The Is Are, and their latest offering Under the Sun is no different.
The Cherry Pit (pinkshinyultrablast) - From Russia, with love, and the ultimate shoegaze seduction!
Cheap Thrills (Sia Furler) - Who would have imagined Sia singing to a tropical beat like she does in Cheap Thrills? It's a bouncy bundle of fun, even more so if you follow her advice — I don't need dollar bills to have fun tonight, just hit the dance floor!
Hey, You're Mine (A Sunny Day In Glasgow, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Remix) - Crammed with shimmy-worthy beats, this remix version of A Sunny Day In Glasgow's enchanting Hey, You're Mine is the kind of song perfect for a New Year's Eve dance party. So vibrant!
Strange Hellos (TORRES aka Mackenzie Scott) - Sick guitar riffs propel this dark, spirited rock number from Georgia-based indie-rock singer.
