Music Review: Charlie (Malayalam)
Composer(s): Gopi Sundar

The folksy Akale has an exotic feel to it, and having Malgudi Subha on the vocals proves to be a big plus (she rocks as is the norm!). Sneham Nee Nadha is an aptly-tuned carol, riding on a minimalist string-based arrangement and Rajalakshmy's ethereal rendition, while Puthumazhayai, in two different versions sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Divya S. Menon, is fittingly melodious as is the case with Pularikalo featuring Shakthisree Gopalan on the vocals. The tune, a blend of Middle Eastern and qawwali flourishes, is patently Gopi Sundar'esque, one that he has perfected since his Anwar days, but nonetheless enjoyable, especially for that minute-long sax intro. That brings us to the undoubted highlight of the soundtrack Oru Kari Mukilinu, a captivating melody that puts you in the mood with its haunting guitar/violin base and Vijay Prakash's ever-stunning voice. The prolific Gopi Sundar ends 2015 on a high with Charlie!
