Heavy Rotation: Adele, Drake, St. Lucia & More
One Direction's Perfect, an alarming copy of Taylor Swift's Style, and other recent listens from the past week...
Hello (Adele) - Look, who's saying hello! Yes, it's Adele and she's back. Hello doesn't veer too far from her signature style, and that's not really a bad thing. It's what a heartbreaking ballad should be, searing and superbly impactful.
Levitation (Beach House) - When Victoria Legrand sings there's a place I want to take you, it's such a transportive feeling, you just want to blindly follow her. A cathartic listen!
Rough Song, She's So Lovely, Elegy to the Void (Beach House) - There's no two ways about it, Beach House's latest LP Thank Your Lucky Stars is simply mesmerising. It's a little different from Depression Cherry, the soundscapes more minimalist, echoing and reverberating, as if recorded in big empty cathedrals and hallways, but wonderfully blissful and emotional all the same. Difficult to pick the best, but the waltzy Rough Song and the trance-like Elegy to the Void would be it.
Hotline Bling (Drake) - Canadian rapper Drake may be finding it hard to scale the Billboard Hot 100 charts with Hotline Bling, but it doesn't take away the fact that the song is one fantastic trip hop fest, an ambient downtempo scorcher, and easily one of my favourites of his after Find Your Love, Hold On, We're Going Home and Take Care.
Irresistible (Remix ft. Migos) (Fall Out Boy) - While I still prefer the original, this hip-hop version featuring Migos is damn good too!
Sorry (Justin Bieber) - It appears that Justin Bieber is betting big on tropical house to signal his comeback. Sorry, the third single from his upcoming album Purpose, is addictive and a solid pop banger, excusing the cheesy lyrics.
A Brand New Life (Panama Wedding) - So catchy indie-pop, it will leave you wanting for more!
Dancing on Glass (St. Lucia) - Synthpop at its addictive best, and that chorus is killing me.
Dust (Swings) - A simple melody, made all the more beautiful by those wonderful guitars.
