Listen: Taylor Swift's "The Archer"

Say hello to Lorde err... Taylor Swift! I, for one, have pretty much given up on what passes off as mainstream pop. Except for the odd Ariana here and Rosalía there, most pop music today has been reduced to a stylistic jumble of perfectly engineered sounds, fleetingly catchy but devoid of any soul. Ed Sheeran's latest collab with Justin Bieber — I Don't Care — is a perfect example of a certified electropop annoyance that gets stuck in your head. Is that all there is to pop? Which brings me to Taylor Swift's The Archer. As a song, the minimalist tune is a definite improvement over her awful ME! and You Need to Calm Down, but also reeks of Lorde's Supercut, like as if it were a cheap Melodrama outtake (Bleachers' Jack Antonoff is credited as the producer).
