Music Review: Velaikkaran (Tamil)
Composers(s): Anirudh Ravichander

Anirudh whips up a frenzied percussion-heavy kuthu in Karuthavanlaam Galeejaam, but beyond the heady beats the song has little by way of new. Vaa Velaikkara and Iraiva both follow a kitchen-sink approach that is all over the place, while Ezhu Velaikkara, although reminiscent of Hiphop Tamizha's Kadhale Kadhale, engages quite well as a motivational anthem peppered with invigorating lyrics and a charged rendition by Siddharth Mahadevan. The soundtrack's easy highlight is Idhayane, featuring a lovely strings-laden arrangement that's arresting from the get go and solidly backed by the singers involved. But for the last two songs, Anirudh's Velaikkaran is serviceable at best.
