Heavy Rotation: Clinton Cerejo & Tapas Relia
I am quite surprised I didn't catch Clinton Cerejo's Jugni when it released back in January!
Jugni, Dugg Duggi Dugg, Bolladiyaan (Clinton Cerejo, Jugni) - The title track brings to mind Javed Bashir's similarly frenzied Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re (Kahaani), but it's beautiful nevertheless. Vishal Bhardwaj wins over with his lovely rendition of the instantly likeable melody Dugg Duggi Dugg, while his better half Rekha Bhardwaj puts the soul in the soulful Bolladiyaan.
Dhanak (Tapas Relia, Dhanak) - Tapas conjures an array of interesting fusion in his latest outing, but the retro'ish title song, with its mesmerising ektara, flute, ghatam (?) and sarangi, and a fantastic Monali Thakur on the mic, takes the cake. It's sheer bliss!
